Abstract:The emergence of feminist movements in India has had a significant influence on the society. In traditional and patriarchal society, gender equality and a demand for the expression of women’s subjectivity are often expressed through feminist films where “film makers have opportunities to question, however subtly, the roles and relations of women in society” (Mozhgan Sadat Marandi, 2011). Feminism transforms both social thought and action; it impacts not only an individual but also the collective society.This is similarly understood from the selected film of this study Tumhari Sulu (2017). Sulu the female protagonist in the film suffers under the traditions of a society that see women as secondary citizens and where the voices of women are often subdued by male dominance. The protagonist of the film suffers under the suppression within her family and the protagonist demand in a unique way, the expression of her subjectivity.
