Data availability policy

Every manuscript submitted to IJPR must include a data availability statement, placed at the end of the manuscript before the reference list. This applies to all article types, including case reports, even where no data can be shared.

What the Statement Should Cover

  • What data underlies the reported findings (e.g., survey responses, clinical assessment scores, interview transcripts, code)
  • Whether that data is available, and if so, where (a public repository, as supplementary material, or available on reasonable request from the corresponding author)
  • Any restriction on sharing, and the reason (e.g., participant privacy, terms of ethical approval, proprietary data-use agreements)

Example Statements

Data available (example): "The dataset supporting this study is available in the Open Science Framework at https://doi.org/10.17605/OSF.IO/EXAMPLE."

Data available on request: "The data that support the findings of this study are available from the corresponding author upon reasonable request."

Data not available: "Due to the sensitive nature of the clinical data and the terms of the ethical approval under which it was collected, the dataset is not publicly available."

Recommended Repositories

Where sharing is possible, authors are encouraged to deposit data in a recognized public repository rather than relying solely on "available on request," which is harder for readers to verify. Repositories commonly used in psychology and mental health research include:

  • OSF (Open Science Framework) — general-purpose, widely used across the social sciences
  • ICPSR — specialized in social and behavioral science data, including mental health research
  • Figshare — general-purpose, suited to datasets and supplementary materials
  • Dryad — general research data repository

Relationship to Consent and Anonymization

Any shared data involving human participants must be de-identified in accordance with the Human and Animal Research Ethics Policy, and consistent with the consent obtained from participants.
